I am a gamer and have been gaming under the alias Godrik for over a decade (Do the math, that's well before the name became well known from the popular TV series True Blood). I chose this particular alias because of what it means.
The name Godrik has several different spellings but stems from Anglo-Saxon times and is derived from the patronymic name son of Godrich which is composed of the word God and the Anglo-Saxon word "ric" which means powerful. Put it all together and you've got "The Power of God." That's a pretty powerful name and is why I've chosen it. It fits in well with the types of games I play and I like to believe that is at least somewhat of an extension of my gameplay.
I've always been a gamer since I was a small child. I remember having a Nintendo system when I was just 4 years old. I've since had every major console that has released. This is what got me into gaming and while a lot of the oldschool games I enjoyed as a child are still very important to me, I've migrated mostly away from console gaming and picked up PC gaming.
My PC gaming experience started off with a lot of text based games and basic single player PC games. It wasn't until about 1997 when I got into Ultima Online. This game was revolutionary to me, it was one of the first games in which I played with a large population of people. I didn't spend a whole lot of time in Ultima Online but it did help pave the way for my expedition into MMORPG gaming.
A few years after Ultima Online came into play, I found myself drawn towards Everquest. Now this is the game that I feel started it all for me. I spent countless hours online playing on the Rallos Zek PvP server. I can remember the grueling gameplay that was required to maximize character progression and hold your own with the fierce PvP that took place.
From Everquest, the next logical game transition was into Everquest 2. I feel this is one of the first "modern" MMO games. I played EQ2 WAY to much. I was a part of some of the major raiding guilds that first outed some of the old world dragon of the Norrath.
When EQ2 came out with their PvP servers, I bailed on some of the better raiding guilds to check out the PvP. This highly competitive gameplay has always caught my eye. I moved over to the Nagafen PvP server and spent a lot of time chasing down other would be PvPers and having my way with them. The game was a blast and I've made a lot of friends from my time in EQ2.
As with all games, something newer or shiner comes out and I've got to check it out. Since EQ2 I have been a part of almost every major MMO release. I've beta and alpha tested (before you could just buy your way into these test phases) and helped shape what a lot of games have become.
Fast forwarding a few years, I can currently be seen in Wildstar with my guild Malum Factum. I've been with Malum Factum for several years now and am pleased to call the guild home. I have also expanded my gameplay from MMO's to other styles of games such as SMITE, Hearthstone, and Battlefield to name a few. From time to time I can also be found on Steam playing some of the great titles available there.
