The Evil Within

I love horror games.  I've always enjoyed playing them alone at night with the lights turned off.  The suspense in these types of games is just unreal and I am so looking forward to The Evil Within.

For those not in the know, The Evil Within is a new horror survival game that is being released on basically all relevant platforms next week.  This title is being published under Bethesea Softworks who have become world renown for The Elder Scrolls series and developed by Shinji Mikami - The creator of the Resident Evil series

I thoroughly enjoyed some of the original Resident Evil games.  I remember spending hours playing through them loving the story, the characters and of course - the suspense!  After several dozen games in the series, it began to feel different.  It didn't seem like much of a survival horror game anymore but more of a grotesque action game.  The survival horror just felt left out.

The Evil Within is looking to bring that back for me.  This is looking like what I would expect from a next generation "Resident Evil" type game.  One of the latest trailers for the game puts a camera in front of players to record their actions as they played through the game.  The result really amps up my desire to play this game.  Have a look for yourself.

You can pre-order for your respective platforms below to get the "Fighting Chance" pack.

Malum Factum Recruiting for ArcheAge

Server: Salphira | Faction: Eastern |Time Zone: US PST-EST | Roster: Current: 30  Goal: 50

We are small in numbers but large in presence and aim to keep it that way by focusing on quality over quantity.  While our primary focus is PvP, we participate in other aspects of the game such as dungeons and trade runs with the emphasis that completing these activities will help bolster our PvP ability.

We take part in the Halycona war as often as possible and do what we can to flip other zones into war.  From day one Malum Factum has been a thorn in the side of many western guilds.  If you enjoy PvP, dungeons and trade runs while being an active nuisance to the enemy, Malum Factum might be a good place to call home.

Malum Factum is an all adult gaming community that has been going strong for over a decade now.  We pride ourselves on being mature, successful and drama-free.  Out history is primarily in progression raiding and team-based PvP:  We aim to succeed (and dominate) in all aspects of the games we play and our ambitions are great for ArcheAge!

We have enjoyed over ten years of gaming success with many more years ahead of us.  Our extensive experience has enabled us to eliminate drama, build an enduring leadership structure and create a lasting community that flows seamlessly from game to game.

Malum Factum has opened recruitment for ArcheAge.  We are currently looking to add another 10-15 players to our current AA roster.  If you meet the requirements below, head over to http://www.MalumFactum.com and fill out an application

WildStar: Experiment X-89 Down!

Malum Factum has been struggling a little bit in WildStar with maintaining the necessary  raid team and it has shown for the past few weeks.  Last night though was a different story all together!

Earlier in the week we were able to clear out the raid zone and get some pulls in on the first major boss, Experiment X-89.  We didn't have a lot of time to do so and this was after taking a week off from raiding to do some recruiting, but we did what we could.  On a few attempts we managed to get him in the 35% range.  Not bad, but clearly not good enough.

On Thursday's raid night, we were able to go in and only needing to clear three thrash pulls, we were able to dedicated the entire evening to taking out X-89.  One of the biggest things holding us back was poor bomb placement.  A few illustrations and an explanation of where I wanted everyone to drop bombs and we instantly saw a huge improvement.

After a few pulls, we were consistently getting X-89 into the teen percentage, a few more pulls and we were down into single digit percentage.  And then finally our kill attempt.  The MVP for this boss kill surely goes to Tatersalad of Malum Factum.  Out of the three healers used for this fight, two died early on leaving Tatersalad to take on the healing of the entire raid team all to himself.  The first of the two healer deaths happened quite early on due to a mishap of confusing small and big bombs.  The second healer death, which was me, happened while trying to re-position during a snipe attack.  This left Tatersalad the only healer for a solid 2 minutes while the dwindling raid team finally finished off the boss.

If this is an indication of where Malum Factum is heading in WildStar, its onto more raiding!

A Week in Review

It has been a week now since ArcheAge went live with its headstart program followed by an official launch open to all players.  There has definitely been a few hiccups along the road but there has also been hours of enjoyment to be had.  This is the most fun I've had in an MMO in quite some time and I'm looking forward to that trend continuing.

The Hiccups

So every game isn't without its flaws and ArcheAge is no different.  Certainly I feel like some things could have been handled differently but for the most part the past week has been pretty smooth.  The biggest issue currently plauging the game is the queue system.

Servers are jam packed full of players and you can expect to be in queue as either a patron or a non-patron for several hours over peak game times.  A lot of players have found sneaky alternatives to getting in game and staying there to avoid the queue system.  This is what is destroying a lot of people's experience at the moment.  As players manage to beat the AFK timers and remain in game, the queue isn't properly rotating people in and causing there to be a continuous queue throughout all hours of the day lasting for several hours.

Trion has announced that they would be opening up additional servers as well as fixing some of the AFK cheats players are using in an effort to fix the queue times.  Once the queue times are fixed and assuming populations keep on the uppity up there is a lot of potential for a lot of good time ahead.

PvP Happened

So here I was minding my own business doing some questing in Ynystere zone in ArcheAge when this guy ran past me, stopped, came back and said "LMFAO, you're on my guild's KOS."

Here's the dialog and actions that ensued:

Spliff: LMFAO
Spliff: You are on our guild kos.

Me: Guess that makes you too much of a pansy to attack me.

Spliff: I personally don't care and I would stomp you so please fuck off tyvm.

Me: Clearly
Me: Running off talking shit works well for you, keep it up.

Spliff then said he was coming back for me.  A few minutes later I saw him right as he stealthed to jump me.

I killed him, effortlessly.

Me: Bitch

Spliff: Play a class that isn't gay
Spliff: If you were melee you would get stomped and you know it

Me: I'm a healer dumb shit  (My class is an oracle which is a healer with some archery abilities)

Spliff:  You pathetic fat cunt

Me: lol so noob

Spliff: lol so blocked
Spliff: enjoy kid

This was pretty entertaining way to begin my morning in ArcheAge.  I'm really loving this game and how open it is to do things like this.  If you don't like someone, kill them.  If you talk shit, be prepared to defend yourself.

Spliff is a member of the guild United We Stand on the Salphira ArcheAge server.

AA Day 1

The first day of AA has been a blast!  A few blips here and there with server issues and such but overall relatively smooth.  I've had a great time getting started with this game.

Day 1 Overview

There was a mad dash to get your housing location, lots of questing, some dungeon running, a bit of "stealing" and a whole lotta PvP ensued!  Be sure to check out my ArcheAge live stream to get in on the action.

Housing Dash

So one of the first things a lot of people wanted to do was place stake their claim on the vacant land.  Player housing is a huge part of the ArcheAge experience and having your piece of land is going to get this party started.  You have to get to level 10 to get the quest for your scarecrow which is the first thing you can place that claims a piece of land.  So you can imagine, everyone rushed to level 10, which only takes about 30 minutes if you know what you're doing, got their scarecrow and rushed to their coveted land spot.

I was lucky enough to get my farm and an actual house laid out on a nice spot overlooking the water!

Questing

As with any new MMO launch, there was a lot of questing to do.  For the most part questing, even with the absurd amount of people online went fairly smooth.  A few hiccups appeared at some key bottle neck quests in which there is a single item to update it yet a hundred or more people needing to get it.  In some cases, lines were formed.  In other cases there was just a riot of people gathered around the item all spamming their buttons hoping they'd win out on this spawn.

A tip:  Skip quests like these and come back.

Dungeon Runs

The first dungeon is available at level 18 and can be run multiple times.  You only need three players to do the dungeon and don't necessarily need a healer/tank if you can work well with your teammates. I was able to run the dungeon several time getting some key pieces of gear. Dungeon gear is highly coveted and not replaced with any haste.

"Stealing" and a Whole Lotta PvP!

This is the bread and butter of ArcheAge.  I'm working on putting together a video of a major heist/PvP event we took part in late last night.  One of our guild members was exploring the mountains and came across a dense forest of player planted trees that were about to be ready for harvesting.

We grouped up as many of us as we could and made our way out there.  We intend on grabbing as many of these trees as possible.  While out there, we ran into the people who planted this forest and they warned us not to take their trees.

Well, we're a bit stubborn and didn't listen to them.  We flagged ourselves for faction PvP killing and took them out.  Little did we know, they had a group of 25-30 players from the opposite faction hiding in the forest waiting to harvest the trees.  They rushed us and we had ourselves a nice little skirmish.

While being vastly outnumbered, we were able to steal about half of the trees they had planted (which was A LOT) and got ourselves a lot of kills in the process.  It was quite funny how afraid they were to come down and engage us while we just kept chopping away at their trees.  They were afraid we would win and they would lose out on all of their trees.  The odds were ever in their favor as they boasted numbers in a ratio of 3:1 compared to us, yet I feel we came out the victors with getting kills and bringing in a boatload of wood for our guild mates to use for crafting.

Come Join the Fun

It's not too late to join the head start for ArcheAge and if you're still not sure, the game goes live on Sept. 16th and is free to play.  Be on the look out for video from the little skirmish we had and here's hoping to some more lively battles in the future!~

Access Deined

With the launch of a new MMO in the coming week I thought it would be a good time to review some account security tips.  Not to mention, I am currently battling for ownership of my SMITE account that I recently discovered was stolen.  So this article is going to throw out mostly reminders but maybe even something new for some people on how to keep your accounts safe.

First and foremost, DO NOT use the same password for your game accounts as you do with your email accounts.  This isn't just for game security, this is for your livelihood security.  A lot of people use their email accounts for online banking and other such financial services.  If someone was able to gain access to your email account, there is a lot of potential damage that could ensue.  I would even go one step further and suggest making a specific email account that you use JUST for gaming.

Security question/answers, use them!  These may not always be huge helpers in keeping an account secure but the information there can come in handy when trying to get your account back.  So use this feature (most of the time it is mandatory) and make sure you use unique answers that only you know the answer too and remember them!

Use a secure browser such as Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome (there are others those are the two that I widely use).  It is also important to keep the browsers updated to the latest versions.  While you may not see much difference after browser updates, the updates are generally security related and will help keep the browser secure.  A side tip is to activate the browser's phishing filter.  While most phishing scams are easily spotted, perhaps some slip through.  This filter will help keep you safe.

A lot of companies now are offering the use of some sort of authenticator. Use them!  They may be a mild inconvenience from time to time, but in the long run, it is virtually impossible to get your account hacked with one of these devices tied to your account.

And there you have it, some simple steps that will keep you in the game while keeping others out of your account.  Take a moment to utilize and update any security features you have, you'll be happy that you did when you hear of someone's account being lost.

What's Your Destiny?

Just gotta get through the weekend and then Destiny will finally be upon us.  This is looking up to be a great title from Bungie and I know a lot of people are super excited for it, myself one of them.

One great aspect of the game is it doesn't really matter which console you get it for, the experience is going to be best suited for that console.  What does that mean?  Most multi-platform games are designed for a specific platform and then outsourced to a third party company to get it tweaked for the other consoles.  This usually means that there is some compromise, either in graphic quality or even game play features.  Not with this title, Bungie has been developing it entirely in-house for all 4 platforms that it will be releasing on day 1.  So the PS4, XBOX ONE, PS3 and XBOX 360 will each be granted a version of the game that was designed and tailored specifically for that system which should provide the best experience possible for each console group.

I personally will be getting this on the PS4 and am looking forward to some more restless nights.

ArcheAge Release Date Announcement!

Yesterday I spent a good portion of my day duking it out in ArcheAge.  I was in the mid 30's level range and just began to experience the PvP aspect of the game.  I'm loving it!  This is very much reminding of my great PvP experiences in older games like EQ and EQ2.  I would really love to have a game like that again and this is shaping up to fill the void.

Last night ArcheAge made a release date announcement at PAX in Seattle.  So the Alpha servers will be coming down tonight at midnight.  Open beta begins on Sept. 4th through Sept. 8th and head start getting underway on Sept. 12th with an official launch day of Sept. 16th.

Good news for me, I'm out of class until Sept. 22nd so I'll have plenty of time to dedicate to the head start and official launch for this game and I'll be streaming it all live!

WildStar Raid 8/28/14

So last night's raid went relatively well.  We killed a new mini-boss on first attempt and made some attempts on the third mini-boss on the first floor in Genetic Archives.

The downfall was not killing Genetic Monstrosity even though we were able to kill him earlier in the week.  Overall, the raid is improving and I'm hoping to see even more improvement come next Tuesday.

If you're interested in WildStar raiding, check out my Twitch stream on Tuesday's and Thursday's beginning at 9pm EST.

USB Foot Pedal
Another pitfall from last night was losing my foot pedal.  I use a USB foot pedal for my push-to-talk key.  I love this concept, it gives me a lot more flexibility while playing.  Unfortunatly, my foot pedal broke just after the raid last night.  I guess it was a good thing it waited until after raid to fall apart..

Anyway, I was very pleased with it as I've had it for several years now and it had only cost me $12 on Amazon.  So I went back looking for the same one and now it's only $10.75!  So I'll be getting that soon and all will be well again.

If you're interested in the foot pedal idea, here 's the one that I am using.

Up and Running

Time to get the party started.  So instead of going on and on about me and who I am for the first post here I made a link at the top of the page called "About."  Click it.  You'll learn stuff about me.  The first post then is going to detail some of the things about the blog and what it is I intend to cover.

Gaming

Well, as you may have guessed by now there shall be a great deal about gaming on the pages to come.  I'm a gamer and have been for quite some time now so you're going to see me talk quite a bit about gaming.

Some gaming topics of interest will include reviews, guides, tips and tricks as well as some potential theory crafting pertaining to games I'm currently playing.  You'll also notice to the right there is a nifty little box showing off my Twitch stream.  So not only do you get to read my rambles about gaming, you'll also have the luxury of watching and listening in to whatever it is I'm currently doing in game.

I also plan on doing some hardware/software reviews for different types of products I use while gaming.  So perhaps you were wondering a little more about that killer new keyboard that was just released, chances are I'm going to get it and then I'll tell ya's all about it!

Games I play

I play a lot of games, I guess that is part of being a gamer, no?  Well here is a current list of what you'll likely see me engaged in.  Keep in mind that new games come out all the time and this is simply an "at this moment" list and will likely change month to month.

There are a few other smaller games I may hop on from time to time but for the time being, this
is likely what you'll encounter.

Current Game Movement

My current game movement is raiding in Wildstar and leveling up in ArcheAge alpha.  My guild, Malum Factum, has just begun raiding in Wildstar and I am the lovely raid leader.  So starting after Labor Day weekend, you can stop by and see our raid progression on Tuesday and Thursday nights starting at about 9pm EST.

When I'm not raiding in Wildstar, I'm working on leveling up in the ArcheAge alpha.  With 120 class combinations to choose from, it is HARD to choose what to play.  So I spend a good amount of time messing around on there trying to figure out good combos and such.  The game is expected to come out sometime in either September or October and with the heavy emphasis on PvP, it'll be a good thing to have a firm understanding of the different class mechanics.

Artwork

I am also a bit of an artist.  Gotta love dabbling in photoshop and making some cool pieces.  On the navigation bar you'll see a link for artwork.  It isn't very populated at the moment but as I get the site up and running I'll be adding more and more of my artwork there.  I have my moments, I wouldn't say I'm amazing with it but I've definitely created some fun and interesting pieces.  I eventually want to get to a point where I can possible take request from readers and create different pieces for different people!

Godrik's Tees

Finally, the last link you'll notice in the navigation bar is for Godrik's Tees.  Well, some of the artwork that I've created I found make great T-shirts.  So you can head over there and see what shirts I have up for sale.  If you're interested in a particular piece of artwork that I have and I don't have a shirt with it, by all means ask away and I'll get one created for you.

Also, another important thing to note, spreadshirt offers A LOT of products to be printed on.  I only created T-shirts for men/women and maybe a hoodie here and there.  If there is a particular type of product you would like a print on, let me know and I can get it drawn up for you.

Heading Out

Well that should about sum up what Gaming with Godrik is all about.  Its all about me, my gaming a couple of my hobbies.  Who knows, I may even expand it further to include reviews of movies I enjoy as well as comic books and other interesting facets of life.
